therapeutic approaches

Main approach is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, other approaches are used where necessary, for example Gestalt and experiential strategies.

Goal oriented. Client identifies what they want to achieve. The process is then facilitated by the therapist. Outcomes are reviewed periodically.

There is an emphasis on skills building.

If medication appears to be needed, the client’s primary care general practitioner or psychiatrist is consulted.

Homework assignments or recommended readings are generally recommended between sessions to enhance the counselling process.
